Heritage Farmhouse Extension in the Macedon Ranges

Set on an expansive lifestyle property in the Macedon Ranges, this exceptional country residence is a masterclass in blending heritage character with contemporary architecture. Originally centred around a relocated period farmhouse, the home was transformed through a substantial architectural extension that respects the scale and charm of the original dwelling while introducing light-filled, modern living spaces.

The design is defined by its striking modern farmhouse aesthetic, where soaring raked ceilings, exposed structural timber trusses and walls of floor-to-ceiling glazing create dramatic yet welcoming interiors. Rich blackbutt timber flooring, natural stone feature fireplaces and carefully detailed bespoke joinery provide warmth and texture throughout, while a restrained palette of timber, stone and steel allows the surrounding landscape to become an integral part of the home's design. Thoughtfully positioned skylights and expansive glazing flood the interiors with natural light, framing uninterrupted views across the rolling Macedon Ranges.

The transition between indoor and outdoor living is effortless, with large sliding doors opening onto generous alfresco entertaining areas that embrace the rural setting.  The accommodation has been carefully planned to balance luxury with practicality, incorporating generous bedroom suites, beautifully appointed bathrooms, multiple living zones, a dedicated mudroom and well-considered service areas that support everyday family life.

This project also saw Nine in Six focus on heritage detailing such as traditional proportions and character features which have been thoughtfully preserved and complemented by contemporary finishes, creating a seamless dialogue between old and new. The residence showcases the precision and craftsmanship required to deliver a project of this scale. Every element—from the structural integration of the original home with the new extension through to the execution of premium finishes and architectural detailing—reflects a commitment to quality, longevity and timeless design.
